Testing instructions
Patients
Overview
Testing instructions can be intimidating– but we’re here to simplify this process. You’ll receive preparation instructions as soon as you order labs, helping you plan the best time to complete your testing. If you have questions about preparing or collecting for your test, our lab experts are ready to help!
Finding your testing instructions
You’ll be able to find all your testing instructions right in your Fullscript account by following these steps:
- Login to your Fullscript account.
- Find the My Health section at the top.
- Click on the Labs tab.
- Click View details to see both the instructions from the lab company as well as any personalized instructions from your provider.
In your treatment plan, your provider may have also added their own personalized message for you based on your medical history.
Specialty lab instructions
If you’ve ordered testing from a specialty lab: Diagnostic Solutions, Precision Analytical (DUTCH), Genova, 3X4 Genetics, or Doctor’s Data, you will be mailed a physical test kit to your door. Each specialty test has its own unique instructions.
You’ll receive these instructions in both your Fullscript patient account and a paper version inside your physical test kit.
Your instructions include everything you need to know about how to prepare for your test, collect your sample and send it back to the lab. Many specialty tests have specific preparation requirements to make sure your results will be accurate. These instructions can include guidance around:
- How and when to collect your sample
- Fasting requirements
- Foods to avoid
- Fluid intake
- Supplements/medications to pause

Quest Diagnostics instructions
If you’ve ordered blood testing through Quest Diagnostics, you will receive a digital requisition form, not a physical test kit. All of your instructions will be available in your Fullscript patient account.
You may need to fast for up to 8 hours before your blood draw. If this is the case, you’ll see this noted in your instructions. Fasting means you should not eat or drink anything except plain water during that time.
Avoid waiting until the day of your blood draw appointment to determine if you need to fast, as this could lead to rescheduling your appointment or receiving inaccurate results. If you’re unsure whether fasting is required, reach out to Fullscript support and we’ll be happy to help you!
If fasting is a challenge, book your blood draw appointment for early in the morning and bring a drink and snack to enjoy afterward.
